Stacking the Shelves 27/02-2016

27/02/2016 | 7 Comments

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews. It is a meme to showcase the books that we have bought, borrowed, received for review, or were given as a gift (basically to show off any book that we acquired). As well, I will tell you a bit about the what has been going on this week and what you can expect from me in the upcoming week!

This Week’s Book Haul

StS (3)

The ever so lovely Dani from Dani Reviews Things gifted me a copy of  Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard, the sequel to Red Queen (a book I immensely enjoyed reading in 2015). I seems the stack of books I need to read keeps growing, but my actual reading slows down every single week. The amount of books I’ve been reading is a sad, very sad, low number.

I also got a package from Abrams and Chronicle Books which brought to me On the Edge of Gone by Coninne Duyvis and The Steep and Thorny Way by Cat Winters. I’ve read Corinne’s debut novel Otherbound and was really impressed with it, so I’m hoping I’ll enjoy On the Edge of Gone just as much, if not more! I have a mad case of insta-cover-love going on for this book, I just LOVE the colors combined and the contrasts: it’s gorgeous. The Steep and Thorny Way is a RETELLING. Boy, don’t I love retellings! And get this, it’s a retelling of Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Now my little inner-literary-university bug did a little jig upon seeing this book when I opened this package.

I also got some mail from the awesomesauce Jamie from Books and Ladders. My friends got my back, haha. It was an envelope filled with bookmarks and other spare swag she had. I am going to try and create a swag binder, to showcase all the swag I saved up the 3 years (almost, only a week more and then I’ve been blogging for THREE YEARS already!) I’ve been blogging, and I’m hoping to be able to give this swag a nice place soon.

Last Week’s Posts

I wrote a post about my workouts, and the reason why I’m putting so much time in it. Those of you that follow my blog might’ve seen me mention running or HIIT training every now and then, and because I am more than my love for books I decided to share. I had wanted to share for a while now, and I know that it isn’t really within the whole realm of books that I normally post about, but it’s something that’s important to me. It didn’t get as much response as I would’ve liked for it to get, but in a way I also expected it because it literally has nothing to do with books, and I know not everyone is as into sports as I am.

I also posted a Top 10 Tuesday, I shared 10 books that I read (and loved) but hadn’t talked about in a while. This was FUN! It is so easy to forget some books, even though you loved them a lot, because we read SO MUCH. So it was really nice to talk about those books for a while.

What to Expect from Next Week

I’m hoping reviews! Can’t promise much, because most of the reading I do is university reading, but I did finish The Love that Split the World this week, and I’m halfway into Earth’s End. I’m currently reading Wuthering Heights for British Literature, and then have another book to read for Amercian Literature *sighs*

What it comes down to is that I’m pretty damn busy, and am trying my best to juggle everything: university, sports, reading, and blogging. However, I WILL THRIVE! And try my hardest to keep creating good content for you all!

This Week’s Book Haul

StS (2)

I got the Fangirl collectors edition from my friend Ali in a belated Christmas package (which means that I now officially own 3 Fangirl editions, my family thinks I’m nuts). I just love the artwork in this edition, the first two pages contain two prints and I think they’re absolutely gorgeous, I regret nothing! I also got a review copy of Amy Zhang’s This is Where the World Ends from American Book Center. I’m really excited about this one, I loved Zhang’s debut Falling Into Place, and I hope this one will be just as good (even though the early reviews I’ve seen haven’t been as great so far…). Then last but not least, I will buddy-review The Love that Split the World together with Jamie and Dani over at our second blog Books Are My Fandom, so I got myself an eBook version of this. I am actually half-way in now, and I’m afraid that up until now, it’s a bit of a disappointment (while my co-bloggers seemed to love it)… I am hoping this will change!

Last Week’s Posts

Well, as you can see last week was a big fat disappointment post-wise… The only thing I posted was last week’s Stacking the Shelves. I had planned to do a Top 10 Tuesday post, as well as write (and post) my review of Earth’s End by Elise Kova, but I was too busy with university reading and training to get any blogging done. I read Huckleberry Fin for my American Literature class and Frankenstein for my British Literature class, and those were such HUGE reads that besides that I only got halfway through Earth’s End and halfway through The Love that Split the World. Besides that I trained every single day (this is normal for me though) and basically I just suck, so no posts, SORRY GUYS! I will do better next week!

What to Expect from Next Week

Okay, upcoming week is a busy one, lots of training (again), tons of appointments, but less university reading though (yay!). However, I am writing and scheduling posts today, so there will be posts! Pinky promise. My review for Earth’s End will go up this week. I will finish this book this weekend, I MUST. I’ll probably write my review for The Love that Split the World (don’t know if I will post it already though). I am working on a post about my exercise addict ways, I don’t know if it’ll be a post that my readers will like, but we’ll see!

This Week’s Book Haul

SS 13-2

So after last week’s disappointing book haul *cough* nothing *cough*, I finally have something to share with you again! It’s a small haul, I know that, but pretty awesome if I do say so myself. First of all, Earth’s End by Elise Kova released this week, and I have a kindle copy ready to dig into (sucks I won’t be able to start it this weekend or maybe not even next week). That badass cover is begging me to read it, and I can’t wait what happens after that HORRIBLE cliffhanger in Fire Falling, but I need to get my university reading done first…

Then I couldn’t help myself and bought Fire by Kristin Cashore. I absolutely adore Graceling and I just couldn’t go any longer knowing what happens next, so I got myself a pretty pretty hardcover of this book and can’t wait to dig in (same story though: university reading comes first). I heard that Katsa and Po don’t play a role in this one, but that the story lines of Graceling and Fire come together in the third book, so of course I have to get that one soon as well (as soon as my bank account allows it, that is).

Last Week’s Posts

In honor of upcoming Valentines Day and this week’s freebie Top 10 Tuesday theme, I decided to share my top 10 fictional crushes AND the swoon-worthy quotes that gave me all the feels. I already KNOW one is missing on that list, so I have decided to just share that one with you here. Namely: Morpheus. The following quote is from Ensnared by A.G. Howard, and this quote just tore my heart to pieces, so much feels!

“I don’t want those things from you. I love your faults and imperfections. Your kind heart. The scars that match mine, and the struggles to find ourselves. I want you humanness. Nothing else.”

I also posted my review of Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton, which I would have liked to publish one week earlier, but that didn’t work out as planned. However, better late than never. I gave Rebel of the Sands a whopping, well-deserved, 5 star rating and if you want to know why, do feel free to check out my review *winks*.

What to Expect from Next Week

What to expect, even I don’t really know yet. I am planning on writing a personal post about fitness-addict ways. Don’t know whether people will like it, but I figured I’d share what I’m up to, and my workouts and runs are a big part of that, so stay tuned to find out more. I’m hoping to get some reviews written as well (lets hope I’ll manage to read Earth’s End soon, and a big pile of other books that NEED to be read haha). Then on Wednesday there’s the weekly Top 10 Tuesday post I’ll be posting. I guess the plan is mostly to wing it, there’s no specific plan (I do suck at scheduling posts ahead of time… *sighs*).

Stacking the Shelves (1): 30th January 2016

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews. This Week’s Book Haul

StS (1)

I was accepted for Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton! I have been highly anticipating this book since I first heard about it, and even though I hadn’t been on Netgalley in ages I got the email that I was approved for this one and about jumped through the roof. So so excited to get started on this one (now I just need to finish my current read and then I can delve into it).

I also got presents! *rubs hands together* I got Open Road Summer by Emery Lord and Vicious from V.E. Schwab from Jamie as belated Christmas presents (yes, we did a very late Christmas exchange, haha). And then, while I was writing this post, the doorbell rang and I got a package from Bex. I was Bex’s Secret Sister for the last few months and the project has just come to an end, she send me Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins (and a lovely card!). The card explained that she wanted to be responsible for introducing me to something great like I had done for her the past few months and I might have teared up a little. I have the best friends!

Last Week’s Posts

Last week I had three posts go live on my blog. I posted my ARC review of Front Lines by Michael Grant that Harper Collins International had sent me. If you haven’t heard about this one, do check out my review and let me persuade you to read it, because I absolutely loved it! I had a discussion post go live as well about How I Struggle with Creating Good Content. Do feel free to stop by and chime in as I’d love to find out your opinions on this matter. Last but not least I posted my review of The Rest of us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness. This was my first Patrick Ness book, and save for some confusion at first I fell in love with his writing!

What to Expect from Next Week

Next week you can expect my contribution to Harper UK’s blog tour for Dumplin’ (which will go up on February 2nd), which will feature my review of the book. An introductory post for Books Are My Fandom (BAMF for short, and yes that’s exactly why we chose the name, haha), the blog I co-host with my besties Jamie and Dani and we just launched together will go up as well. And my review for Rebel of the Sands will probably go up on the blog as well. Much to look forward to! *smiles a toothy smile*
