Monthly Recap – December 2014

So apparently I totally skipped last months Monthly Recap. Last month being November, and November was a bit crazy for me. I was in a major blogging slump, I didn’t read too much and overall everything was a bit hectic for me. My sincere apologies… Now I’ll shut up and continue with my December recap.

imageI always say that December is a month filled with madness, and I’m not joking about that. December 5th we have a celebration in the Netherlands called Sinterklaas.  Its a bit like Christmas filled with presents and family, but typically Dutch. Then December 10th its my mothers birthday (more presents to be bought) and not to forget Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Its fun, busy, exciting, and an absolutely worrisome for my wallet *cough* and weight.

Aside from the summer, December comes pretty close to being my favourite time of the year. Its a month filled with family, with thoughtful presents and very very good food. Who doesn’t love December? Aside from my wallet of course…

December was the month that I introduced a new feature called Stories behind the Shelves. There have been three people that participated and its slowly growing into what I want it to be. *if you’re interested in being featured, click here*. It was the month that I finished my Goodreads challenge! I set a goal of 60 books about halfway into the year and read 63 *Pats herself on the shoulder*. The month that I wrote my first discussion post (click). And also the month that I got my first Auto-Approval on NetGalley! *Hug* a big thank you to Harlequin Teen *hug*

Favorite December Reads

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

Another Little Piece of my Heart by Tracey Martin

Yes… I only just finished Throne of Glass *shamefaced* Though I feel a bit better, since I got some really nice comments from people that have yet to read it. Is the distraction working and successful in keeping you from scolding me?

Anyways, I have to admit that Throne of Glass was totally awesome, and I have -of course- ordered Crown of Midnight. Another Little Piece of my Heart was a much awaited read (every Jane Austen retelling is much awaited for me) and luckily enough for me it lived up to my expectation. Persuasion spiced up with Rock Music. That’s just totally amazing and badass. So yeah, Sara J. Maas and Tracey Martin, I love both for writing some absolutely excellent books!

Most Played Song

Somehow I always end up listening to this song in December. I don’t mind the Christmas songs, but they’ve always been too much for me. And this song -to me- is the ultimate winter song!

Most Memorable Quote

“True beauty is what lies inside of us, not what the world sees. A beautiful shell that houses a vile soul becomes sullied over time. But an outer shell, imperfect as it may be, that houses a beautiful, shines with that beauty, radiating it for all who have eyes to see.”

-Defy, Sara B. Larson

December is such a busy month, I agree, but for me, the busiest month for me is September because of freaking school. Grrrr. And it’s okay if you read a few books; it’s better than nothing. I hate it when I get into a blogging slump. November was a slump for me too, but I had scheduled posts so it didn’t seem like I was MIA, but really, I was. Congratulations on being auto-approved by Harlequin!

Thanks! September is a busy month as well, though way less than December… I also have my test week coming up right now, they really hate us to schedule a test week after the busiest holidays *sigh*
And September is my Birthday month! So I don’t mind it because I get dozen of awesome bookish presents (that I can’t read until the school craziness is over, but I don’t want to think about that part haha)
Oh well, we’ll manage! Because we’re that awesome!

December is definitely a full on month….and stressful. >_< Hehe…I'm definitely a shy person so being surrounded by lots of family during the holidays is kind of overwhelming! But it was fun. My sister gave me Paper Towns by John Green for Christmas. She is an awesome sister. And, btw, I LOVE your feature. (Not biased because I participated, nope…) I think it's a fabulous idea!

*blushes* thank you, I always love to hear when people really like my feature. I’d been pondering for a while whether I should start it or not and I’m glad I did :) the enthusiasm has been great!
December is totally overwhelming! Do you have a big family?
Very awesome sister! I haven’t read Paper Towns yet, but John Green is awesome, so anything written by him automatically gets a ‘awesome’ label

  3. Looks like you had an AWESOME month Iris! I just got Throne of Glass from the library, and I’m really excited to start it! :D I’ll definitely let you know what I think when I’m finished!

    Thanks for sharing!

    (P.S. I <3 your new feature – it's so fresh and original!)

and thank you <3 I was so unsure about starting the feature and every time somebody tells me that they love it, it makes me very happy!
