The Process of Moving Out & my next Blogaversary Giveaway

Do you know that smiley on your phone? The monkey that’s hiding it’s face behind his hands?

That’s how I feel after the week of radio silence on the blog. I feel pretty bad about it, but I can show you what I’ve been up to!

As the title spoils, my second Blogaversary Giveaway will be included in this post, so if you don’t want to read about everything else, just scroll down. At the end of the post you’ll find the question I attached to this giveaway. I LOVED your answers for the first giveaway (which is still running! Click here to go to that post and comment for a chance to win one of 10 Ensnared proofs).

For those of you that didn’t know yet. I got the keys to my brand new studio on Tuesday. And I am SO EXCITED. I am officially moving out. While that’s really exciting and all. It’s also a lot of work. Because when I got the keys. My new home looked like this.

To break things down: There is a kitchen, but no fridge/freezer, no microwave/oven, nothing to cook on, no furniture. That was the easy part… solved by a major shopping trip that involved terrorizing the people at Ikea by racing with the shopping cart (I totally let the little kid in me run wild).

The harder part? See the white spots on the walls? There were all kinds of bumps and little holes in the walls… which needed to be flat if I wanted to paint it (and actually make it look pretty). So I spent an evening doing all that with my father. At the end of the evening, we left the place looking white from all the dust and plaster. And while my dad’s hair is a bit grey… it normally doesn’t look white! But it did when we left. The sight was hilarious.

Next up: painting. We had to paint everything white, before putting the color on. Because, again, I want it to look pretty. This took half a day. Then we did the floors (getting rid of all the bumps and lay the laminate flooring), this took a while as well and we returned home a little after 00.30 am. I had class the next day… and it was on syntax. I’ll admit to falling asleep.

Then on Friday. I went to a concert (it was the Script!) and my dad and cousin were so sweet to paint the walls in the pretty colors I picked. While I was sipping cosmos, dancing and singung along at the EPIC concert of the Script, they were doing the hard work. Oh, and did I mention they did all the heavy lifting? They carried all the Ikea stuff into the apartment (and I live on the 5th floor!). Don’t worry, there is a nicely working elevator, but still… it’s heavy! Time for another photo update.

I am in love with the colors I picked. They look so pretty and homey. So this was all done Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. I have to say I was a bit sleep deprived at that point, but we just wanted to have this all done before the weekend so I could start moving in. Which is exactly what I’ve been doing this weekend: putting together furniture, drilling holes in walls, arranging the cable for my brand new television, and so on. I think you get the idea.

I’d hoped to be done this weekend. But there’s still a couple of things to do (the curtains, filling the cabinets and all, and not to forget… picking up my bed), but that’s not the point, because IT LOOKS GREAT, and more importantly it feels like home. I am just so happy that every time I sit on my couch and look around my heart just swells and is filled with all these feelings. It’s my own place. And sure, it’s small, and a student studio. But who cares? I live there on my own, and for me it’s PLENTY of space. I love it. And I can’t wait to ‘officially’ move in next weekend.

studio blog 3As you can see I already started shelving some books. I packed so many that while carrying them I thought my back would never recover (but it did!). My clothes aren’t even in my closet yet. But, as I always say, books make a home, so my books are a priority haha.

So this is it… the reason why I was absent this week. I slept in to 11.30 am today just to catch up on sleep (and I still feel so incredibly tired), but it was worth it, because I am so happy with the result. As promised, I’ll also include the next giveaway in this post. After this one there are two more to come!

Second Giveaway

Up for grabs: 1 SIGNED copy of Unhinged by A.G. Howard

What do you have to do: I wanted to do things a bit different this time around. Everyone can earn one entry by commenting on this post. You’re name will land in the big jar I have on my desk, and when the giveaway ends I’ll draw a random winner. There’s no specific question you have to answer in order to get an entry, but I thought it would be fun to ask a question anyway (because I want to know your answers, and find some great new titles to put on my TBR)! Question: Do you have a favourite main character? What is it you love about him/her?

This giveaway will run for a month, and ends April 23rd and is International! Good luck!

Thanks for visiting!

Ohhh it looks GREAT! I love the colours too! (Those are like my favourite colours.) And it all looks so nice and cozy and homey at the end there. Well done! :)
Omg, favourite character?! UMMMM. IT’S SO HARD. Okay. I really love Blue from The Raven Boys because she exists on yogurt, she’s a feminist, she doesn’t hesitate to call people out for being sexist, she doesn’t take crap from anyone, she’s fabulous, she’s practical, her NAME IS BLUE WHICH IS AWESOME, and she cares about those adorable Raven Boys so so much.
This is an exciting giveaway! YAY THANK YOU!

Omg I am too happy about this giveaway, My favorite character of splintered is Morpheus, he’s so mysterious and he makes me go mad sometimes. I can’t wait to know of him a bit more and it would be amazing if I could read about him on a signed book! Congrats again from Italy :)

I absolutely LOVE the Splintered series by A.G. Howard; and my favorite character would have to be Morpheus from that series. Morpheus is sweet and seductive and just downright an amazing character! Unhinged (along with Splintered and the most recent 3rd novel released back in January, Ensnared) was so good and I’d love to have it on my comfy bookshelf! :)

I would have to say that one of my favourite characters of all time would either have to be Aylssa from The Splintered series, because she has such great qualities and she’s a strong leading female. My other favourite character would have to be Noah Shaw from The Mara Dyer Trilogy because of his quirkiness and his emotions to Mara

Gosh I have so many favourite protagonists. I’d probably go with Katniss though, because she’s got a lot of fight in her; she doesn’t back down. Thanks for the giveaway.

Wow! I’m reading Splintered now and I love Alyssa! Such a brave girl! Her character is so strong. I’m excited to read the next book, Unhinged, and I hope I can win this book from you.

Thank you and may the odds be ever in our favor! ^_^

One of my favourite characters is Cath from Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. The book itself is well written and the plot line is good, but to me the best part of this book were the characters. And then in particular how much I personally could relate to them. It’s just nice to be reading something relatable between all those books with scenes in it that can’t be seen in real life.

My favorite character has got to be Elizabeth Bennet!!! Love how she isn’t afraid to speak her mind and she’s pretty spunky! Plus, she’s witty and she’s “real”, as in a lot of us can relate to how she feels.

  10. 06/04/2015 / 18:20

My favourite character is Celaena Sardothien from the Throne of Glass series. She’s just such a brilliant, strong female character – love her!

Thank you so much for this giveaway!

I don’t really have a favorite main character. I fall in love with new main characters pretty much every time I read a new book :)

    Hey Iris,

I love your new place. I think it is amazing. So much better than mine. My favorite main character I will have to go back to the classic Pride and Prejudice. I love Elizabeth Bennet. I think she learns a lot from the beginning of the book to the end of the book. I always seem to gravitate towards the characters that learn something. She is my favorite.

  14. 17/04/2015 / 18:45

Hmm wow I’ve read a lot of books and I can’t think of any characters who stood out to me. Maybe I need to read more books? Lol. There are a lot of great characters but maybe I still have not found ” the one”, you know?

It is really hard to pick one character. I really love the splintered series by A.G. Howard, so from that series, I have to say Alyssa because she was a very strong character who was willing to risk everything for those she loves. However, I also really like Wren from the Reboot series by Amy Tintera (it’s so good). Wren is another strong character who had a lot to learn on a rough journey.

I think one of my favorite main characters is Alina from the Grisha trilogy. I like the way she grows throughout the books, but what I love the most about her is that she has depth – she’s not just plain good or plain bad, you can see both in her and the way it plays a part in everything she does.
