You take it for granted. Waking up. Going to school, talking to your friends. Watching a show on television or reading a book or going out to lunch.

You take for granted going to sleep at night, getting up the next day, and remembering everything that happened to you before you closed your eyes.

You live and you remember.

Me, I live and I forget.

But now—now I am remembering.

For all of her seventeen years, Molly feels like she’s missed bits and pieces of her life. Now, she’s figuring out why. Now, she’s remembering her own secrets. And in doing so, Molly uncovers the separate life she seems to have led…and the love that she can’t let go.

The Half Life of Molly Pierce is a suspenseful, evocative psychological mystery about uncovering the secrets of our pasts, facing the unknowns of our futures, and accepting our whole selves.

What I thought NEW

I knew beforehand that The Half Life of Molly Pierce was going to be an interesting read. While I figured out what was happening to Molly right after reading the synopsis (you can blame that on watching too much tv View Spoiler » ) it didn’t spoil the book for me, quite the opposite actually.

Can you imagine having scary blackouts? One moment at school and the next in her car driving god-knows-where with no memory of how she got there. Honestly, I would lose my mind, but it is exactly what has been happening to Molly. She’s troubled and confused and scared that she’s going crazy. To put it mildly, she isn’t the happiest person. But while she goes through all that on her own, she’s strong and driven to find out what is happening to her. Her character has great depth and that makes for a great protagonist!

While the story could be very dark at times, somewhat depressing, the subtle humor laced through the story did wonders. It lifted the story considerably and made it a bit lighter and easier to read.

My gosh, and the writing is off the charts! I didn’t really think that this would be a writing style that I’d enjoy, but it is mesmerizing and so very suspenseful. It added perfectly to the sense of mystery surrounding Molly’s story and it fit her situation perfectly.

As I said in the beginning of this review, I did figure out what was going on with Molly right away. The ending of the book only confirmed what I already knew to be true. While this did kill some of the suspense for me, the book never really lost its appeal. It allowed me to focus more on Molly’s journey, instead of finding out what was wrong with her. For me, it was the journey of self-discovery Molly undergoes and her struggles along the way absolutely made this book.
